A tournament of legendary fighters from all over the world is about to begin! For this Charitymates event, customizers created unique tournament fighters limited only by their imagination in order to aid relief efforts in Japan. The single minimate who gets the highest bid during the charity auctions will be the winner of the tournament! A second wave of auctions will begin in the next 2 weeks, with even more block figure creations.

Charitymates is an annual charity event held at the Minimate Multiverse. During this event, Minimate customizers (veteran and novice alike) create and donate a Minimate custom based on a theme chosen by the community. These unique creations are then auctioned off on eBay with 75% of the proceeds going to a specific charity (also chosen by the community) and the remaining 25% helping with the operation costs of the Minimate Multiverse.

This year’s charity is Direct Relief International, who provides medical assistance to improve the quality of life for people affected by poverty, disaster, and civil unrest at home and throughout the world. To help the most vulnerable people in Japan, Direct Relief has been working closely with community-based nongovernmental organizations in-country to provide aid to people who have been displaced and affected by the March earthquake and tsunami. So far, Direct Relief has granted more than $1.7 million to local community groups coordinating emergency response efforts and providing relief services for the elderly and disabled in Japan.

The 5th annual Charitymates customizing event has begun! Charitymates is an annual charity event held at the Minimate Multiverse. During this event, Minimate customizers (veteran and novice alike) create and donate a Minimate custom based on a theme chosen by the community. These one-of-a-kind creations are then auctioned off on eBay with 75% of the proceeds going to a specific charity (also chosen by the community) and the remaining 25% helping with the operation costs of the Minimate Multiverse.

This year’s theme is Fighting for Japan. A tournament of legendary fighters from all over the world is about to begin! Customizers will create unique tournament fighters limited only by their imagination. The final customs will be paired up and photographed in various fighting stances. The single minimate who gets the highest bid during the charity auctions will be the winner of the tournament! If you are interested in participating, head on over to the Charitymates 5 thread at MMV. We already have 21 customizers who have pledged to make a custom, and we are hoping we can get even more participants before the June 1st deadline. Most of the artists who have participated in the past are returning again this year, providing an all-star line-up of talented customizers. And Japan still needs much support and aid during this time of crisis.

This site will also feature information on the upcoming auctions for this annual event, where you will have a chance to own an amazing custom and help a worthy cause at the same time. I am happy to announce that we raised a grand total of $408.25 from both waves of auctions! That means that $306.19 will be going to support the ongoing efforts of Convoy of Hope, and $102.06 will be going towards running the Minimate Multiverse. All customs will be shipping out this week!

This year our group of generous customizers was tasked with creating unique robot characters. The resulting customs are amazing in both their creativity and their craftsmanship. A second wave of auctions will begin next week, with even more block figure creations.

This year’s charity is Convoy of Hope, a 501©3 nonprofit organization that feeds the hungry and provides pure drinking water to people in need across the United States and around the world. To date, the organization has provided real help to 34.8 million people in 109 countries and 46 states. Lauded for its effectiveness and efficiency, Convoy of Hope mobilizes thousands of volunteers each year to deliver food and supplies and to offer hope to the poor and suffering.

Velociraptor

Our second charity auction starts today! The item up for bid is the velociraptor custom minimate seen above. All proceeds will support Convoy of Hope, just like last month’s auction, which raised $31.00. This is a 3 day auction ending on May 20th.
